Latest version.
  • (a)

New boundaries adopted. The municipal election district boundaries shown on the map attached hereto and titled "Greer City Council Proposed Plan 4B-11" prepared by the office of research and statistics of the state budget and control board, are adopted. The same map is incorporated herein by reference and shall be deemed the official map for all purposes of identifying municipal election district boundaries.

    (b)

"Election district" and "ward" to have same meaning. For purposes of clarification and simplification, the term "election district" shall have the same meaning as the term "ward" as used in any prior ordinance and as used in Title 5, "Municipalities," of the Code of Laws of South Carolina (1976), as amended; and the two terms may be used interchangeably. The term "election district" has been selected for this chapter for the sole purpose of assisting and expediting an analysis of the city's compliance with federal statutes, regulations, and case law.

    (c)

All other election and voting provisions to remain in effect. All existing provisions of municipal law which pertain to elections and voting and which are not specifically changed by this section are to remain in full force and effect.

    (Code 1982, § 8-9)

Note— In accordance with the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended, preclearance from the United States Attorney's Office is required for adjustments to boundaries of election districts. Such clearance was received from the United States Justice Department on May 6, 2002.
